Oatmeal Cookie Varieties
There are two glamorous versions of oatmeal cookies:
- Oatmeal Raisin Cookie. This is a traditional oatmeal raisin recipe of an elegant (as opposed to rustic) style, packed with Sun-Maid raisins and the luscious flavors of brown sugar and cinnamon.
- Cranberry Walnut Oatmeal Cookie is a medley of flavors: oatmeal, Ocean Spray Craisins and walnuts, with an undercurrent of dancing cinnamon. While the classic Oatmeal Raisin is never a wrong choice, the complexity of this variation is, for us, the better one.

Southern Pecan Bar Bites
These are different from other pecan bars we’ve had, because the caramel is made with honey and a touch of orange zest instead of sugar. It’s more complex than the typical recipe, and another way that Ms. Coleman puts her personal spin on traditional goodies. The pecan and caramel layers sit atop a buttery shortbread crust.
We enjoyed these bites with a leisurely cup of tea, Southern style.
