Chocolate Soup & “Grilled Cheese” Sandwich
A Delicious Dessert With A Sweet & Creamy Mascarpone Cheese Sandwich
You’ve enjoyed soup and a grilled cheese sandwich for lunch, no doubt, but how about for dessert? When it’s chocolate soup and sweetened mascarpone cheese on a rich, eggy bread like challah or brioche, it’s likely to be the new hit special occasion dessert in your home. Here, you can drink the rich chocolate soup or use it to dip the mascarpone grilled cheese sandwich.
Top chefs like Thomas Keller of The French Laundry have developed clever recipes like this (his “Coffee and Doughnuts” is a coffee cup of cappuccino mousse with beignets), so have fun with it and surprise your guests. This recipe is compliments of
Dove Chocolate Discoveries, Dove’s chocolate home party business where “chocolatiers” present lines of both finished chocolates and ingredients to make chocolate recipes.

Chocolate Soup Ingredients
- 3/4 cup heavy cream
- 3/4 cup whole milk
- 7-1/2 tablespoons Dove Chocolate Discoveries Dark Sipping Chocolate
(substitute any shaved or chopped dark chocolate, preferably 70% cacao)
- 2-1/2 tablespoons cream cheese at room temperature
- 3 tablespoons mascarpone cheese
- 1 tablespoon maple syrup
- 2 tablespoons honey
- 6 slices of challah or brioche bread, 1/3” to 1/2” thick
- 4 tablespoons unsalted butter at room temperature
Preparation
-
Pour the heavy cream and milk into a heavy-bottomed medium saucepan and bring to a simmer over medium heat. Sprinkle in the chocolate and whisk vigorously until the chocolate is completely melted and the mixture is smooth in texture. Remove from heat, and cover to keep warm.
-
Whisk the cream cheese, mascarpone, maple syrup and honey in a small bowl until well blended. Spread the mixture onto three slices of bread, and top with the remaining slices. Spread butter onto outside of the sandwich.
-
Heat a medium-sized sauté pan over medium heat. Add the sandwiches individually and cook until each side is golden brown (roughly 1-2 minutes per side). Remove from pan and repeat with remaining sandwiches.
-
Cut each sandwich in half and serve immediately with a small cup of warm chocolate soup for dipping.
