Pyrex: Magnetized Measuring Cups & Spoons
We’re avid environmentalists; we don’t upgrade anything—no matter how nifty—if it means throwing away something perfectly good or, worse, shoving it in the back of the drawer. But when we tested these magnetized measuring cups and spoons from Pyrex, we became instant converts: They’re the best we’ve seen. They’re nested for compact storage, and the magnets keep them firmly in place, one on top of the other. The pointed tips make it easy to scoop and pour. The white handle markers make it easy to see the sizes. They couldn’t be more user-friendly. Our other three sets found a home with a colleague who teaches cooking classes for kids.

We liked them so much, we replaced the classic turn-to-grind salt and pepper grinders on THE NIBBLE’s lunch table with them. WowBacon: Microwave Bacon Cooker
The things we dislike about cooking bacon: how it infuses the house with fried bacon smell, how it spatters grease all over the stove and how unwieldy it is to pour off the bacon grease. That’s why our favorite inexpensive kitchen gadget of the year award goes to WowBacon. It produces very crisp bacon in the microwave and keeps most of the odor inside the microwave (and it’s a tiny fraction of the aroma generated on the stovetop). All the bacon fat drips down to the bottom of the container, where it’s easy to pour off. The cooker pieces go into the dishwasher. The only limitation is that each three-minute cooking cycle produces just 6 pieces of bacon. The solution: We purchased two units!
