In addition to spreading Cindy’s Healthy Creations on breads, you can mix them into everything from muffin batter to salad dressing to pork roast glaze.
December 2006 Update: We recently learned that Cindy has decided to focus on her personal chef business and is no longer producing these products. Some products are still available as of this writing, and Cindy hopes that another healthy food-lover may take over producing the products. If you’re interested in such a business, please call Cindy at the number below.
One’s first reaction upon tasting Cindy’s Healthy Creations is exactly that: healthy. Then: natural, fresh, and tasty.
This is a line of spreads that is made with no added sugar—it’s all fruit-sweetened. Not everyone likes this kind of flavor profile—many of us are too used to the over-sugared American preserves we grew up with to appreciate an unadulterated product that essentially lets the natural ripe fruit show itself off. We have not particularly enjoyed other products in this style, but we think Cindy has done a great job. Made with top ingredients and bursting with concentrated fruit flavor, this line is a find for anyone who wants a “better for you” product.
The line of four fruit flavors and one chocolate spread flavored with raisins are perfect with breakfast breads, crackers, and sweet biscuits; and are great toppings for hot cereals. (We admit to eating them out of the jar.) And, each flavor has a “specialty” application:
Cranapple is a complement to roasted chicken, turkey and pork; and on meat and poultry sandwiches. Because it’s unsweetened, it’s naturally tart; but if you’d like it a little sweeter you can easily add your own favorite sweetener, non-caloric or otherwise, to taste.
Apricot Almond mixes well into plain yogurt. The crunchy slivered almonds add a nice note to the rich apricot.
Walnut Raisin goes great with goat cheese for tea sandwiches and canapés. It’s a real find.
Raisin is a great general for crackers crackers and cheese, for those who don’t want the nuts in Walnut Raisin.
The spreads can also be incorporated into a variety of sugar-free recipes. Cindy’s website includes recipes for Chocolate Peanut Butter Cookies, Oatmeal Raisin Almond Cookies, Orange Surprise Muffins, Raisin Spread and Chevre Bruschetta, Spinach Salad with Raisin Dressing, Raisin-Parmesan-Crusted Chicken Breasts, and Pork Tenderloin with Cranapple Sauce, and others.
Apricot Almond, Chocolate, and Cranapple Spreads.
The spreads range from 15-45 calories a tablespoon, with the chocolate and nut flavors at the higher end of the range. They are non dairy; and as there is no sugar added, they can be consumed by diabetics in accordance with their healthcare advisors. But, so that we can end on the note these yummy products deserve:
The packaging is homey, but the products also taste like something you’d expect to be served at The Golden Door. Buy lots!
