Recipe: Cheese Christmas Tree
A Special Cheese Board For Christmas
When the crowd arrives for holiday revelry, wow them with this wonderful Christmas tree cheese board made from different flavored cheese cubes.
The recipe, from Cabot Creamery, uses an assortment of the company’s delicious Cheddar cheese cubes: Pepper Jack, Extra Sharp Cheddar, Chipotle Cheddar, Tomato Basil Cheddar and Horseradish Cheddar. You can use any semi-hard cheeses if you want more variety of flavor: young Asiago, Colby, Edam, Fontinella, aged Gouda, Jack, Manchego, Provolone and Queso Blanco, for starters (learn more about these cheeses in our Cheese Glossary).
For those limiting their fat intake, Cabot makes four reduced-fat Cheddars, including Jalapeño (one of our favorite cheeses) and Light Pepper Jack, which are as delicious as the regular cheddars. All Cabot cheeses can be purchased online at CabotCheese.com.
If there are any leftovers, you can make cheese omelets or a mini-fondue.
Ingredients
- 5 eight-ounce bars of different cheddars, plain and flavored (or substitute other semi-hard cheeses for variety)
- 1 bundle fresh thyme sprigs
- Red grape or "teardrop" tomatoes (can substitute cherry tomatoes or olives)
- 1 large white button mushroom
Preparation
- Cut each bar of cheese into 1-inch cubes.
- On large platter or cutting board, arrange cubes in rows to form tree shape, using a different flavor for each row. Separate the rows of cheese with thyme or rosemary sprigs (rosemary looks like an evergreen twig) and rows of grape tomatoes and/or pimento-stuffed green olives.
- For the star on top, peel the skin from the mushroom and carve a star pattern into it with point of knife.
