Cocktail Recipes For Cinco De Mayo
CAPSULE REPORT: Six new fruity tequila cocktail recipes will give you something to celebrate on Cinco de Mayo—or the other 364 days of the year.
Overview
Cinco De Mayo (“May 5th”) commemorates the Mexican army’s victory over French forces at the Battle of Puebla on May 5, 1862. Though it’s not a federal holiday in Mexico (or anywhere), it’s celebrated in North America and abroad as “a celebration of Mexican heritage.” But the the real reason to celebrate is the delicious Mexican food and drink.
If you plan to host a Cinco De Mayo party, be sure to stock the bar with North America’s first indigenous distilled spirit—tequila (quick—what‘s the second one?*)! Here, we present six Mexican tequila cocktail recipes, courtesy of El Jimador tequila, perfect for the occasion. *Berkley Plantation in Virginia claims to have produced the first Bourbon whiskey in 1621, but it was not called “Bourbon” at the time. At about the same time, rum was being distilled from sugar cane in the Caribbean, although other spirits made from fermented sugar date back to antiquity in the Pacific Rim, where sugar cane originated.
El Jimador is one of Mexico’s premium tequilas, made of 100% blue agave. Jimadors are the people who harvest the agave plants used for making the tequila.
El Jimador is the number one selling Tequila in Mexico, The brand’s signature drink is the Authentic Jimador Paloma cocktail, a mix of tequila and Fresca (The Paloma is the top-selling cocktail in Mexico).
Personally, we prefer the more sophisticated Tequila and grapefruit juice cocktail, but the advantage of Fresca is that dieters can mix themselves a tall drink with Diet Fresca).

Tequila Cocktails: Batanga
A Batanga is the Tequila version of the Cuba Libre, with a hit of salt for extra dimension. It was created some 50 years ago by Don Javier Delgado Corona, owner of La Capilla, a top bar in the city of Tequila. You can’t go wrong with this cola crowd pleaser.
Ingredients Per Cocktail
Preparation

In highball glass add ice, tequila,
cola and lime juice.

Stir to mix.†

Garnish with a lime wedge.

Cactus Kicker
While the name is nicely alliterative, it’s important to remember that the agave is not a member of the cactus family. It’s a succulent, a group of plants that not only belong to another family, but to another order entirely. Sweet-and-tart cocktail balances the fruit and fruit liqueur against sour mix.

Golden Coa Cocktail
A coa de jima is the long, stick-like instrument used to cut agave plants in the field. This sweet cocktail, named in its honor, is a bright and fruity delight.
