Matiz Olivada Spreads
Regular, Hot & Sweet Olive Spreads From Spain
CAPSULE REPORT: Matiz España specializes in sourcing and importing specialty gourmet products from Spain. They’ve scored three artisan olive spreads from the Catalan region, great for hors d’oeuvres, snacks, enhancing sandwiches and more. The products are all natural, free of preservatives or chemical additives, gluten free and non-GMO.
Made from the Empeltre olive from the Bajo Aragón region of Catalonia, these traditional olive spreads taste especially good. They are intensely olive, because they are unseasoned (unlike a tapenade, which mixes olive paste with other ingredients). The olives are of the finest quality: There is no bitterness or acrid quality, just wonderful olive flavor.
There are three varieties: Traditional Olivada, Hot Olivada (just a bit of heat) and Sweet Olivada. Both the traditional and hot olivadas are 80% olives, 20% olive oil. The Sweet, or Dulce, is 50% olives, 32% sugar, plus water and basil. You’ll put them to immediate use as:
- Sandwich spreads—use instead of or in addition to mayo for a more savory spread
- Hors d’oeuvres (try goat cheese with Olivada on a thin slice of baguette, and sliced avocado with Olivada on a rice cracker—fusion cuisine)
- Crudités
- Cheese condiments
- A crust for fish (pan-fry halibut or salmon with an olivada crust)
You also can:
- Create a new take type of sandwich, by spreading Sweet Olivada and almond butter (or cashew butter or any other nut butter) on toast
|
Olive spread is smoother than a traditional tapenade. |
- Add Sweet Olivada to yogurt, crepes, pancakes, vanilla ice cream and as a dip for fresh local strawberries.
An olive lover could not wish for more.
