Macaroni & Cheese Dinner
- Serving size: 2.5 ounces/70 grams/makes about 1 cup
- Servings per container: 2.5 (However, cooking instructions on opposite side panel state “Makes about 3 cups.”)
- You add: 1% milk, unsalted butter
- Yield when prepared: about 2-3/4 cups
- Per serving: 330 calories (90 calories from fat). 10 grams total fat, 6 grams saturated fat, 30 mg cholesterol, 680 mg sodium, 1 gram fiber, 10 grams protein, 15% calcium
- Tasting notes: Sauce is too thin, though it thickened after a 5-minute standing time not specified in the instructions. There was very little flavor to the sauce.
Spirals & White Cheddar Dinner
- Serving size: 2.5 ounces/70 grams/makes about 1 cup
- Servings per container: 2.5
- You add: 1% milk, unsalted butter
- Yield when prepared: about 2-1/4 cups
- Per serving: 310 calories (70 calories from fat). 8 grams total fat, 4.5 grams saturated fat, 20 mg cholesterol, 680 mg sodium, 1 gram fiber, 10 grams protein, 15% calcium
- Tasting notes: One of very few products where the pasta cooking time on the box equaled the cooking time in real life. The sauce was initially very thin, but after a 3-minute standing time (not specified in the instructions), it thickened somewhat. Moderate cheese flavor.
Fiber Gourmet
As its name suggests, Fiber Gourmet’s Mac And Cheese is chock full of fiber, and is lower in calories and fat content than most others. FiberGourmet.com
Fiber Gourmet Mac-mmm-Cheese
- Serving size: 2.5 ounces/68 grams/about 1 cup prepared
- Servings per container: 3
- You add: nothing
- Yield when prepared: about 3-1/3 cups
- Per serving: 160 calories (10 calories from fat). 1 gram total fat, 0 grams saturated fat, 0 mg cholesterol, 660 mg sodium, 18 (eighteen) grams fiber, 7 grams protein, 6% calcium
- Tasting notes: Although the pasta here looks like it’s made from white flour, it has a somewhat tangy flavor, though the sauce hides some of this. Less sauce than most. The whole grain pasta, high fiber and lower calories and fat content are commendable, but there’s still just not that much cheese flavor. Certified kosher (dairy) by The Union of Orthodox Jewish Congregations.
