WHAT IT IS: Homestyle ice cream sandwiches. |
WHY IT’S DIFFERENT: The ice cream is cheesecake—lemon or chocolate. The cookies look and taste like homemade. |
WHY WE LOVE IT: Who doesn’t love a good ice cream sandwich? We especially like the “homemade” style. |
WHERE TO BUY IT: At retailers nationwide. Use the “Contact Us” form on SmoogyCoookie.com to find a store near you. |

Hopefully, Smoogy packaging will be getting a redesign soon. The box should be as sophisticated as the ice cream sandwiches inside.

Smoogy Frozen Cheesecake Cookie: A New Take On The Ice Cream Sandwich
Smoogy may not yet be a household name, unless your household watches “Supermarket Superstar.” The frozen cheesecake cookie sandwiches (think “cheesecake ice cream”) were a winner on the reality TV program, which looks for the next great supermarket item.
Smoogy is far better than a supermarket ice cream sandwich. It’s more of an artisan food that is lucky enough to have supermarket distribution. It’s the type of ice cream sandwich you’d expect to get from your local homemade ice cream emporium, or for dessert at a trendy restaurant.
After she was downsized from her corporate job, Tekisha Collins applied to the show, hoping to turn her Smoogy recipe into a family business. The prize is a national distribution deal.
On the show, Collins featured frozen cheesecake filling in banana, lemon and strawberry flavors, sandwiched between her sugar cookie and graham cracker blend.
Two two flavors were chosen for initial distribution: Chocolate Fudge, with chocolate chip cookies (our favorite), and Lemon Cheesecake, with the sugar-graham cracker cookie.
While we hope for Ms. Collins’ sake that a mega food manufacturer buys the product and gives her family a lifetime of financial security, we appreciate that for now, the ice cream cookie sandwiches are still made homestyle, “using only the finest ingredients” and crafted “with care, love and precision.”
Smoogy ice cream sandwiches are available at A&P, The Food Emporium, Food Basics, Pathmark, Superfresh and Waldbaums. To find a store near you, use the Contact Us form on the company website.
And the name, Smoogy? It had been bestowed by her young son, who at age two turned the phrase “so good” into “smoogy.”
