Baconnaise

Baconnaise is the creation of “two regular guys,” Justin and Dave, who love bacon and dream of making everything taste like bacon. One envisioned a product called Bacon Salt, so a few years back, the two technology company colleagues formed a partnership to turn the product into a reality (it launched in 2007).

Our favorite product in the line (which includes bacon-flavored lip balm) is the bacon-flavored mayo, Baconnaise, which was popular enough to spawn Baconnaise Lite. Although the products are vegetarian and kosher, they add what seems like true bacon flavor to anything they touch: sandwiches, fish, fries and whatever you personally do with mayonnaise. Potato salad made with Baconnaise is wicked, as are chicken salad and egg salad.

Baconnaise Lite has half the fat and 1/3 fewer calories but also less bacon flavor. We’d stick with the “Regular.”

Spicy Lemonaise

The Ojai Cook has added to its outstanding gourmet mayonnaise line, Lemonaise, with three new flavors:

  • Cha Cha Chipotle Lemonaise, seasoned with mustard, roasted jalapeño chiles (chipotles) and garlic.
  • Fire & Spice Lemonaise, a combination of sweet tomato, spicy cayenne pepper and zesty cumin.
  • Green Dragon Lemonaise, a  jolt of wasabi with mustard and cilantro.

The choice is yours—all are excellent, although the Chipotle and the Fire & Spice are very similar—you don’t need both, and we lean toward the latter, which is more complex. Of the three, we personally can’t get enough wasabi, so we devoured the Green Dragon.

Anything you can do with Baconnaise you can do with the spicy Lemonaise line. Would rather dip your fries into bacon mayo, cayenne mayo, chipotle mayo or wasabi mayo?

Use them on:
