|  |  |    Hamburger Buns & Breads The easiest way to make a burger different is to get beyond the same old, same old soft burger roll. You can use bread instead of a roll—in fact, the original burger was a sandwich, probably on toast (see the history of the hamburger). Look for interesting rolls—onion rolls, caraway rolls, anything with more flavor. If the rolls are smaller than traditional hamburger rolls, make the pattie smaller to fit the roll.  And don’t forget to toast the bread: Not only does it provide a better texture, but it makes the bread sturdier to support a heavy pattie.
