Watermelon can be eaten fresh-sliced, grilled or diced; added to salads; or served with cheese. It can be served as a fruit soup or as part of a gazpacho. It can be made into jams, jellies and pickles. For dessert, watermelon sorbet, granita, ice cream and frozen yogurt are special treats. Watermelon juice is delicious drunk straight or in combination with other fruit juices and/or spirits.

- Fruit Salads. A melon ball salad with watermelon, cantaloupe and honeydew is a favorite summer dessert. Garnish with a chiffonade of mint or basil. Use your carving skills to turn the shell into a serving bowl.
- Savory Salads. Watermelon is delicious in salads, especially when paired with blue cheese, feta or other tangy cheese. Add baby greens—arugula provides a peppery counterpoint.

- Beverages: Cocktails, punch (the watermelon shell can be carved to hold the punch), smoothies and straight watermelon juice.
- Garnishes: Just about any foods, from eggs and pancakes to sandwiches, meats, poultry and seafood, taste good with a small slice of watermelon or a melon skewer.
- Desserts: Watermelon sorbet, granita and a watermelon “napoleon”: cut slices of watermelon into squares and make a three-decker napoleon, filling the layers with whipped cream and berries.
