Flavors Of Alo Aloe Vera Drink
Beyond the flavor, the cool thing about aloe juice is the aloe pulp in the drink. If you’re a fan of Chinese bubble tea with tapioca “bubbles,” this is much better: The translucent pieces of pulp are more delicately chewy and sweet. It’s like eating and drinking at the same time.
Before we get into the individual flavors of Alo, we have to get in one little gripe that has nothing to do with how good it tastes. It’s what to call the flavors. The company has given two names to each flavor. Aside from being cumbersome (do you want mangosteen and mango, or do you want “Allure?”), the names make no sense:
“Exposed” is Original Aloe Vera With Honey. “Awaken” is Aloe Vera + Wheatgrass. “Elated” is also known as Aloe Vera + Olive Leaf Tea. And so on. It's misleading (wheat grass, Awaken, is thought to lower blood pressure, for example, it isn’t a stimulant, and olive leaf tea, Elated, is known for anti-viral, anti-bacterial and cardiovascular effects, not as a substitute for Prozac).

From top, clockwise: Original Aloe, 12 Fruits & Vegetables, Olive Leaf, Wheatgrass and Mangosteen + Mango.
|
- Original Aloe Vera With Honey (“Exposed”). The original aloe flavor tastes like a very elegant, adult fruit punch—not made with grape juice, but with something new and exciting. It’s a bit peachy, but more exotic.
- Aloe Vera + Mangosteen + Mango (“Allure”). Destined to be the popular flavor, Mangosteen + Mango is sweet and seductive, with notes of peach and guava.
- Aloe Vera + Olive Leaf Tea (“Elated”). Olive leaf tea, brewed from the leaves of the olive tree, hasn’t hit the U.S. yet. But it’s a delightful tea, and has been brewed in the Mediterranean for more than 5,000 years. In recent decades, it has been a subject of research for its anti-viral, anti-bacterial and cardiovascular benefits. In this flavor, there’s a familiar tea quality, plus the peachiness that seems basic to the aloe drink, along with a nice syrupy quality.
- Aloe Vera + 12 Fruits & Vegetables (“Enliven”). If you want your serving of fruits and veggies, this juice contains apple, broccoli, cabbage, carrot, celery, lemon, passionfruit, pineapple, spinach and white grape. It’s the lowest-calorie drink, with 50 calories per serving.
- Aloe Vera + Wheatgrass (“Awaken”). This is one of the best sellers, because there’s a large audience out there that loves wheatgrass juice. We’re not a member of that group, but if was a favorite among the wheatgrass fans who tasted these drinks—there’s a strong wheatgrass flavor.
Are you ready to say “allo” to Alo?
