Peanut Butter Fudge

Send a “candygram” of peanut butter fudge–it’s delicious! All photography by Katharine Pollak | THE NIBBLE.

WHAT IT IS: Greeting cards in the form of window boxes filled with fudge and other confections.
WHY IT’S DIFFERENT: The very high quality of the candies.
WHY WE LOVE IT: In this digital world, it’s an inexpensive alternative to picking “the right gift,” far more appreciated than an e-card and not that much more expensive than buying a fancy card in a card shop.
WHERE TO BUY IT: Fudgemail.com.

Candygram Overview

When we were very young and Western Union still delivered yellow paper telegrams, the company launched a venture called Candygram. A box of candy arrived with a celebratory telegram. How good was the candy? At the time we really liked it; but we were 8 years old.

The service was immortalized in the “Candygram” skit on Saturday Night Live, where a woman (Gilda Radner) is duped into opening her door by the treacherous Land Shark (Chevy Chase), who pretends to be a Candygram deliveryman.

Western Union ultimately sold the Candygram name. Today it’s part of a national network of hand-delivered “telegrams” that offer everything from flowers and balloons to stuffed animals and snack baskets. We haven’t tried the candy since our first introduction, so we can’t tell you how good it is.

But we can vouch for the competition: Fudgemail.

Boll Weevil Bark: White chocolate, peanut butter, crushed Oreos, peanuts and mini marshmallows.

Candy Options

Fill your Fudgemail box with your choice of an entire candy store of options. There are 10 flavors of fudge, 7 varieties of chocolate bark, chocolate-covered everything (caramel cups, coconut clusters, Oreos, peanut butter cups, peanuts, pretzel rods and raisins, for starters). We had:

  • Fudge. We tried three flavors: chocolate, peanut butter and mint chocolate. Three thumbs up! So much of the fudge we taste is cloyingly sweet. The Fudgemail selections were a creamy, welcome treat.
  • Chocolate-Covered Oreos. We tried the white chocolate-covered variety. There was lots of crunch and good flavor—better than Oreos from the bag, thanks to the quality dipping. And better than other chocolate-covered Oreos we’ve had.
  • Boll Weevil Bark. We loved this white chocolate-peanut butter bark, packed with crushed Oreos, peanuts and mini-marshmallows. More, please!
  • Chocolate-Covered Pretzel Rods. This was the only semi-successful confection we tried. The chocolate and caramel were delicious, but the pretzel rod had lost a bit of its crunch. Did that stop us from eating the whole box? Nope.
  Chocolate Covered Oreos
Chocolate-covered Oreos are available with dark, milk and white chocolate cloaks. We loved these White Chocolate Oreos.

We didn’t try any of the sugar-free items. That will be our next order.

We never thought, upon opening our packages, that this cute concept would taste so good. If you need to send us a card, make it Fudgemail, please.
