Food Should Taste Good makes a rainbow of flavors. Above, Jalapeño and the barely sweet Chocolate tortilla chips, which can be enjoyed with sweet dips, hot chocolate, even ice cream. Photography by Emily Chang | THE NIBBLE. |
WHAT IT IS: Gourmet tortilla chips. |
WHY IT’S DIFFERENT: Wonderful explosion of flavors. And, it’s a healthier chip: all natural, high oleic sunflower and/or safflower oil, sea salt and overall lower sodium than many chips (80mg per ounce). |
WHY WE LOVE IT: Each flavor has its own exciting dynamic that makes these chips more than a snack food. They become a garnish and in ingredient for other dishes. |
WHERE TO BUY IT: At many fine retailers nationwide. Visit FoodShouldTasteGood.com for the list. As of this writing, you can get a $1.00 coupon by signing up for the mailing list. |

Tortilla Chip Flavors
We know we have a hit on our hands when our editorial committee oohs and aahs over every product in a line. While they are as diverse as a slightly-sweet chocolate tortilla chip to a fiery jalapeño chip, all of the Food Should Taste Good tortilla chip flavors are exciting. You’ve heard the expression, “explode with flavor.” Here, they build up to a crescendo, the flavor growing deeper and more satisfying until the wow factor peaks...and piques.
Buffalo Tortilla Chips
Like Buffalo wings? You’ll like them in a chip, too. You don’t have to dip these chips in hot sauce, because it’s already baked in. Hot, spicy, tangy and, of course, crunchy.
Serve With: Blue cheese dip and celery sticks. (See photo on Page 1.)
Chocolate Tortilla Chips
While chocolate tortilla chips may sound gimmicky to some, just one taste will transport the chocolate sophisticate to Seventh Heaven. If only the Aztecs had figured out that they could make cacao tortillas instead of drinking it with maize, man could have been enjoying these the last 900 years or so. Chocolatey flavor builds happily, a dab of cane sugar balanced by a dab of salt. Wonderful!
Serve With: Smoked almonds and red wine as an aperitif; crumbled on top or mixed in parfait-style with cinnamon, chocolate, coffee or vanilla ice cream; as a snack/dipper for cherry, chocolate, coffee, raspberry or vanilla yogurt; for dessert with fresh goat cheese, drizzled with honey; as a hedonistic binge with mascarpone.

Chocolate Tortilla Chips are a thing of beauty. No sophisticated chocolate lover can pass these by.
|
Jalapeño Tortilla Chips
Made with real jalapeño chiles and crushed red peppers, this chip begins with a garden-like flavor but don’t rest easy—the heat starts to build. The best jalapeño chip we’ve ever had.
Serve With: Salsa or queso dip (see our favorites from Jardine’s, another Top Pick Of The Week). Or use them to make a taco salad.
Multigrain Tortilla Chips
Never has multigrain tasted so seductive: These chips, made of brown rice, flax, sesame and sunflower seeds, soy and quinoa are so good, it was all we could do not to devour the entire bag. But we could say that with all the flavors.
Serve With: Garlic or lemon hummus, or your favorite savory salsa.
Sweet Potato Tortilla Chips are long and oval, just
like sweet potatoes. |
Olive Tortilla Chips
Here’s another reason for olive lovers to be happy. Made with black, green and kalamata olives, all three flavors are in happy harmony with the corn.
Serve With: Beer, wine, cocktails...plain or with an elegant cucumber-yogurt dip that doesn’t cover up the wonderful flavor of the olives.
Sweet Potato Tortilla Chips
Oval in shape, just like a sweet potato (see photo at left), these flat chips are charming in appearance. After enjoying the sweet potato flavor—better than most sweet potato chips—the corn taste comes up, a lovely marriage of flavors.
Serve With: Sour cream and chive dip. We liked them with tomato soup and other creamy vegetable-tomato soups. The shape also enables them to serve as a flat canapé base—for goat cheese and figs, smoked fish spread, tartare, chicken or seafood salad.

The Works! Tortilla Chips
For those who love an “everything” bagel (or more closely, everything lavash), here it is in a four-sided flat chip (a large parallelogram, or more fancifully, a diamond). Flavored with onion, garlic, caraway and poppy seeds, it’s a versatile chip/cracker.
Serve With: Your favorite creamy dip will work with this chip. Or serve it with soups and salads.
In fact, all this writing has made us hungry for some more chips. Since it’s breakfast time, we think we’ll have The Works! with some scrambled eggs. At 130 calories, they’re a much better bargain, and just as satisfying as that bagel.
