Organic Confections

Bark, Candy & Pecan Pralines

CAPSULE REPORT: Candy that’s organic and green—not in color, but in friendliness to the environment. Those who love bark and supporting the organic movement will bark with happiness to discover Organic Confections.

Organic candy is hot stuff. Yummy Earth took off with its organic lollipops and drops—what parent wouldn’t want the kids to eat all-natural candy instead of fake food? Organic Confections offers up barks galore, plus “lollipops” that are fun, miniature balls of hard candy, and some dandy pecan pralines.

The Organic Confections line is made by Parker Products, an ingredients manufacturer that supplies many other confections manufacturers. Their own Organic Confections are premium products that use only the purest, minimally processed, natural, organic-certified ingredients available.

And they’re not just organic—they’re eco-friendly candy with a green rating of 98%:

  • 100% recyclable
  • 100% biodegradable
  • 95% eco-friendly packaging
  • 95% organic ingredients
(the only non-organic items we saw on most ingredients lists were salt and sodium bicarbonate)

Flavors

Organic Confections makes enough of a variety to keep palates entertained for some time.

Barks

The barks look like white chocolate, but are actually what is known in the trade as coating (or confectioner’s coating), made with sugar, whole milk powder, soy lecithin and vanilla, like regular white chocolate, but substituting fractionated palm kernel oil for the cocoa butter. If we hadn’t told you, you wouldn’t have noticed: It’s high quality with delicious flavor and creaminess, and for its purpose—to partner with another flavor—it couldn’t be better.

  • Organic Banana Pudding Bark Candy. Along with Milk & Cookies Bark, this is one of the most unique barks—less a white chocolate confection and more in texture like a soft chocolate-cookie hybrid. We really liked it. It has a tad bit of salt on the finish, similar to Oreos (which we wish we didn’t have to use as a comparison in a review of organic products).
  • Organic Coffee & Cream Bark Candy. Love coffee with cream? You’ll love this.
  • Organic Hazelnut & Chai Bark Candy. We are one of the group that doesn’t particularly care for hazelnuts, but we really liked this bark—cream, lots of cinnamon flavor and sweet hazelnuts. Even if you think you don’t like hazelnuts, give it a try.
  • Organic Milk & Cookies Bark. See notes for Banana Pudding Bark. Charming texture, with mild cookies-and-cream flavor.

  • Organic Pink Peppermint Bark Candy. A nice bark for people who like a lighter dose of peppermint.
  • Organic Pomegranate & Orange Cream Candy. This flavor has tartness from the pomegranate hard candy, similar to the raspberry below, but it’s offset by sweet orange candy. If you want to pucker, but not too much, try this one.
  • Organic Raspberry & Cream Bark Candy. The sweet white creaminess with tart raspberry nuggets will please the sweet-and-tart crowd.
  • Organic Sweet & Salty Bark Candy. A chocolate bark with salty peanuts. Expect a good hit of salt on the finish. For many, this will hit the spot.

Other Confections

  • Organic Lollipop. Cute, tiny balls of lemon, orange, pomegranate and raspberry may be unseemly for adults to eat by hand, but the kids will gulp them down (photo below).
  • Organic Pecan Pralines. These are a charming candied pecan: very crunchy with the sugar dialed way down. In an era of overly-sweet food fabrication, we applaud the effort. They are most excellent atop ice cream.
  • Organic Praline Pumpkin Seeds. The pumpkin seeds are smaller and sweeter, with a pumpkin pie spice profile and some salt for complexity. They’re addictive, and make an excellent dessert topping. Or, serve them as “shooters” with coffee or hot chocolate.

Lollipop Balls
Kids will enjoy cupcakes topped with balls of
Organic Lollipop; kids and adults alike will relish a garnish of  bark.

Serving Suggestions

The products will please adults and young’uns alike.

  • They’re delicious with after-dinner coffee and tea
  • Serve them in a shot glass with any hot or cold beverage.
  • They look great in a candy bowl.
  • Make delightful party favors (the packaging is so cute, just tie a ribbon around the neck)
  • They are charming small gifts and stocking stuffers
  • They beg to be used as cupcake or cake decoration
  • They’re a perfect small treat when you want just a pinch of something.

Some people will bark, some people will howl for Organic Confections. Many who want organic and eco-friendly candy may do both.
