Planters NUT-rition Peanut Butter: Packed With Great Stuff

Peanut butter is a nutritious food: It was invented by a physician to provide protein for people who could not chew meat (see the history of peanut butter).

While delicious flavored peanut butter has been produced by artisan manufacturers for more than a decade, Planters is the first national producer to take on mix-ins.

They’re marketing Planters NUT-rition as a peanut butter “Energy Mix”  for adults. The message might be stated as: Instead of an energy bar, dig into a spoonful of delicious, flavored PB. The open jar doesn’t need refrigeration, and is easy to keep in desk drawers, lockers or tote bags.

Three NUT-rition flavors debuted in September, with inclusions (popularly called  mix-ins) that create a delightful texture as well as added flavor—we’d classify them as “gourmet” PB:

  • Banana Granola Nut Peanut Butter:  We could use more banana in this flavor, but it’s perfect for a PB sandwich with sliced bananas.
  • Berry Nut Peanut Butter: Chewy bits of dried cranberry add texture and flavor.
  • Cinnamon Raisin Granola Nut Peanut Butter: Perhaps our favorite.
  • Cherry Chocolate Peanut Butter is “coming soon.” We’ve been waiting since September for it, but have decided not to hold this review any longer.

Planters NUT-rition Energy Mix peanut butters are packed with nutrients, vitamins and minerals, and six or seven grams of protein per serving. You can see all the nutritional information on the Planters.com website.

We’ve been hooked, and are on our third re-stocking of all three flavors. The 12-ounce jars, have a suggested retail price of $3.49-$3.99.

It would be nice to think that you could simply mix in your own favorites into a jar of plain peanut butter. But store-bought peanut butter is too thick to do that successfully. There may be an ultra-creamy style out there that would ease the process. Otherwise, we’re happy to let the machinery of Kraft Foods do the mixing for us.

Ways To Use Planters NUT-rition Peanut
Butter

Yes, you can turn it into peanut butter ice cream topping. See the recipe below.

You can spread it on cookies, on toast and other breakfast breads, on apple or pear slices and as a pretzel dip.
