Mary's Gone Crackers

You’ll go crackers when you taste the lively, complex flavors of Mary’s whole grain, gluten-free crackers and twig snacks.

WHAT IT IS: Whole grain, gluten-free crackers and “twig” snacks.
WHY IT’S DIFFERENT: Vibrant flavor and exciting crunch makes the fact that they’re “whole grain” and “gluten-free” irrelevant to those who fear they won't taste great. These crackers and snacks taste especially terrific!
WHY WE LOVE IT: We can fit crackers and snacks into our three-servings-a-day of whole grains. The flax seeds give a nice boost of omega-3 fatty acids. And again: They taste great!
WHERE TO BUY IT: MarysGoneCrackers.com and fine retailers nationwide.

Mary’s Gone Crackers:
Whole Grain, Gluten-Free, Organic Hits

CAPSULE REPORT: A quick glance at the Mary’s Gone Crackers package can make a serious foodie apprehensive: wheat-free, gluten-free, dairy-free, vegan, no hydrogenated oils, no trans-fats, non-GMO. The litany of what’s not in these crackers is so extensive, you start to wonder what is in them that makes them taste so vibrant and delicious. (See the answer in the main review.) They’re also organic, whole grain and kosher.

Mary’s crackers taste so good, and deliver such flavorful, addictive crunch, that it’s a pleasure to get your three daily servings of whole grains (and 455mg of omega-3 fatty acids per serving) by substituting whatever cracker or chip you’re enjoying now. The flat, round wafers have a great nutty, whole wheat taste despite an absence of wheat. Each of the five flavors (Original, Black Pepper, Caraway, Herb and Onion) is distinct and straightforward. Black Pepper, for example has a nice pepper bite; Herb features basil, oregano and other dried-herb-rack staples; Onion is reminiscent of Lipton Onion Soup mix, in a good way. Even the Original is splendid: a hearty grain flavor accented with the sesame and flax seeds that characterize the entire line.

In finding a solution to her own gluten-free needs, Mary Waldner has created a line that any lover of fine flavors will find exciting. There’s a new product line, Sticks & Twigs, that offers similar excitement in a pretzel-stick shape. Read the full review for the whole, healthy scoop.

Introduction

In 1994, Mary Waldner discovered that she and her son were allergic to gluten, a protein found in wheat, barley, rye and most oats. Eliminating those grains from their diet cured the condition, but left her with nothing to eat in the area of bread, crackers and baked goods.

A lifelong baker, Mary began to experiment with the alternative gluten-free flours—corn, garbanzo bean, potato and rice flour, tapioca, potato starch and others—until she created a satisfying reproduction of her brownies, cookies, muffins, pancakes and waffles. But at parties, there wasn't a cracker or bread stick that could be enjoyed with the cheeses and dips. Mary went back to work using brown rice as a base for crackers.

Her Original Seed Cracker, a big hit with even bigger flavor, now comes in four varieties—Black Pepper, Caraway, Herb and Onion—plus Original. Recently, Mary launched Sticks & Twigs, pretzel-like snacks made from a similar recipe.

Mary's Gone Crackers - Original

Flavorful Mary’s Gone Crackers can be served with anything a traditional cracker would pair with; and work well as chips for dipping, too.

The crackers contain whole grain brown rice, whole quinoa, flax seeds and sesame seeds. There are no added oils or fats; the products are sugar-free and dairy-free, yet delicious and satisfying. Kosher certified, organic certified. An excellent source of whole grains. Products are manufactured in a dedicated gluten-free facility.
