Gourmet Chocolate Truffles
Page 2: Serving Suggestions
Serving Gourmet Chocolate Truffles For
Dessert
Some people look at chocolates as an indulgent snack. But they also can be served a part of a fine dinner, and are excellent with after-dinner beverages from coffee and tea to wine and spirits to craft beer.
Serve truffles:
- Instead of cake or other rich dessert. End dinner with a cheese course. Then, serve chocolate truffles with coffee or tea.
- With a scoop of vanilla ice cream. Instead of a dessert sauce and whipped cream garnish on ice cream, pass the truffles (or place one atop the ice cream or on the service plate). If you want to serve the truffle as well as chocolate sauce, make sure the crowd is of the indulgence persuasion.
- As part of a chocolate dessert sampler. Ten years ago or so, one of our favorite pastry chefs, Johnny Iuzzini of Jean-Georges in New York City (and of Top Chef: Just Desserts), pioneered a four-part dessert sampler. Organized around flavor themes (apple, caramel, chocolate, raspberry, etc.), each dessert plate contained three different desserts and a matching beverage.
- With a chocolate cocktail. Every chocolate lover will enjoy a chocolate martini with a truffle chaser. Make this chocolate martini recipe (there are many chocolate martini recipes online).
Serving Gourmet Chocolate Truffles Aprés Dessert
After an elegant dinner, it is custom to repair to the parlor/salon/living room for an end-of-meal liqueur or spirit.
- With Cognac, whiskey, liqueur or red wine. A snifter of Cognac, a shot of whiskey or liqueur or a glass of wine with a chocolate truffle or two is a fine way to end the evening. See our chocolate and wine pairing chart.

The company also makes brittle, turtles (called Galapagos, after that island’s enormous turtles) and 10 tempting flavors of caramels. We can’t wait to try them!
